Frances has been involved with CDBA Alberta over the last 20 years in various positions and most recently, since November 2017, as President.
A graduate from the U of C in Education, Frances taught elementary students in Grande Prairie and in Calgary. Her middle child was born deafblind with CHARGE Syndrome, which steered Frances and her family members’ lives in a new direction, culture and language, ASL.
Frances experienced directly the resilience and courage of individuals with a dual sensory loss. This was the beginning of her involvement with CDBA and the communities of the Deaf, Blind and Deafblind.
As a parent of a deafblind child, Frances had become an advocate for the special needs of her daughter and where possible, for the deafblind community in Alberta.
